Child and Adolescent Therapy
Counselling children and adolescents requires a very different approach to counselling adults and as such we utilise play such as board games or play with toys depending on the age of the child to first ensure the child feels comfortable.
Parents are invited to the first session to provide a history, background and to outline the concerns and desired goals. Following that a series of sessions with the child is recommended and communication is maintained with parents through pre-scheduled parent or joint sessions. The therapeutic approach taken is to provide children with new skills delivered in a safe and engaging environment.
Our primary child and adolescent therapist Hayley Yi has the knack of engaging children and young people and sessions are a lot of fun combined with learning and personal change for not only the young client but their family.
The types of issues vary and include coping with family breakdown, social anxiety, depression and suicide ideation or self-harm, explosive anger, self esteem, building resilience, grief, loss and trauma, building social skills, ADHD, gender dysphoria, gaming addictions, high functioning autism.
