Child Ability Assessment
We are now offering formal psychological assessments of children also referred to as Psychometric or IQ tests. Where a child is having difficulty with their learning, these assessments can be used to identify specific areas that assistance should target which is useful for intervention within their school or at tutoring. In addition, they can help to provide information on a child’s intellectual potential and identify whether they may be gifted.
The IQ / Academic achievement tests used by BayWellbeing are:
- Weschler Intelligence Scale for Children, 5th Edition (WISC-V)for children aged 6 to 16 years
- Weschler Preschool and Primary Scale of Intelligence, 3rd Edition (WPPSI-IV) for children aged 2 years and 6 months to 7 years and 7 months
- Weschler Individual Achievement Test (WIAT-III)
The assessment process first requires the child to attend an appointment for administration of these standardised tests which can take up to three hours, and can be spaced over 2-3 sessions. The psychologist then spends considerable time formulating the results and producing a comprehensive written report. Finally, there is a feedback session to discuss the results and recommendations for an educational plan for the child.
